Firefighter

Baylor Janney - Boones Mill Fire Department

Baylor has been a volunteer at Boones Mill Volunteer Fire Department for almost 2 years. When he isn’t at the fire station, you can find him working for his dad doing interior construction or working for Boones Mill Auto driving a tow truck. He says, “I am blessed to have an amazing family and I can’t thank them enough for their support in everything I do. My mom and dad taught me about hard work and to be a good person even when no one is watching.” He has 3 siblings and they all support his hard work and the time he gives to the community. They drive him to be the best he can be.

Baylor says, “Joining Company 7 was an easy decision for me; I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to apply. It has been a dream of mine since I was a young child.” It all started for him when he was about 7 years old when his mom took him and a few of his friends to the fire department for his birthday party. They toured the fire house and got to see all the trucks and equipment. They were allowed to sit in the fire trucks, honk the horns, and turn on the lights and sirens. He says, “As a child that is what I wanted to do, I loved to play with fire trucks and I guess I never grew out of it,” He has felt a calling to give back to his community and to help others; volunteering puts him in that position every day. Baylor says, “I was nervous, but after my first interview I knew I had made the right choice. I felt welcome and saw the family atmosphere that Company 7 has and realized that I wanted to be a part of that.” Chief Riley Peters and other senior members soon realized how committed Baylor was. They took the time to teach him everything they know. He is still learning from them daily and says, “Hopefully one day I can teach and mentor new members and have an impact on them like they did for me.”

Baylor spends a lot of time towing, running fire calls, and just being at the station. Even though he has a busy schedule, he still finds the time to do other things he enjoys. He loves spending time with his family and you can always find him outside hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers, kayaking, playing corn hole, and getting together with friends.
