Modified Services

Effective 03/19/2020 the following modifications and operational hours will take place until further notice:

  • Administrative Office
    • Visitor restrictions have been implemented.
    • Citizens are requested to utilize phone interaction and online services at this time.
  • Franklin County Animal Shelter:
    • Hours: Closed to the public until further notice.
    • Appointments can be made for owner surrender dogs/cats Intake and adoptions of animals by calling the Franklin Co Animal Shelter at 540-483-7440 (Call to schedule).
    • Animal Shelter workers will continue to work regularly scheduled hours but will not be available to the public except for by appointment only where additional screening questions will be ask.
    • Animals will continue to receive daily care by shelter workers.
    • The animal shelter will be cleaned and sanitized daily by shelter staff as the trustee program has been suspended.
  • Franklin County Animal Control (AC) Officers:
    • AC Officers will continue to work regularly scheduled hours.
    • AC Officers will conduct as much business by phone as possible to minimize contact with the public.
    • AC Officers will responded to all situations and bites as deemed necessary or life threatening when requested.
    • AC Officers will minimize proactive enforcement to minimize contact with the general public.
    • AC Officers will be available to respond when requested by radio or by phone during regular business hours and on-call after hours per the on-call schedule.
  • Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO):
    • The FMO will discontinue routine fire inspections until further notice and only conduct inspections in life safety situations.
    • The FMO will discontinue the inspection of mobile food vehicles and trailers until further notice.
    • The FMO smoke detector installation program will be discontinued until further notice.
    • The FMO will still continue the investigations division and response to fire and emergency situations as necessary.
    • The FMO staff will continue to work regularly scheduled hours and attempt to conduct business by phone / email until further notice.
