Can anyone turn an animal into your facility? No. We are a municipal pound, so we can only take in animals that are being relinquished or strays from Franklin County.

Are you a No-Kill shelter? FCAS is a municipal animal shelter. Although we do our best to find every healthy, adoptable pet a good home, we are not a No-Kill facility. Through a variety of programs, we make every effort to place all adoptable animals in our care. Some of these animals are euthanized due to lack of space and homes. FCAS works with many rescue groups in the county to help place the adoptable pets in our care.

Volunteers at Our Shelter

We love our volunteers and couldn't be successful without their valuable, meaningful help at the shelter.  Prospective volunteers will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire for a minimal background check. We have several opportunities available for volunteers at the shelter including:

  • Shelter Cleaning
  • Animal Cleaning and feeding
  • Data Entry
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Adoption Events
  • Animal Exercise Program
  • Animal Promotions

If you think you would be interested in volunteering some of your time in support of the animals and community, please feel free to contact Cindy Brooks at 540-483-7440.  Volunteer Manual and Volunteer Application.
