Operational Medical Director

He was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina and attended East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.  At ECU he received a degree in Psychology and Sociology. He later attended medical school at East Carolina University and then went on to complete a residency in Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in central Pennsylvania.  While completing his training at Geisinger he functioned as a Life Flight physician and remained closely tied to EMS.  After finishing specialty training in Emergency Medicine he practiced in Elkins, West Virginia and at West Virginia University. There he served as an EMS medical director and paramedic education program medical director and developed the state EMS medical director’s course.

Before settling in Franklin County he has worked in Emergency Departments in various locations, from the interior of Alaska to the coast of North Carolina.  He currently is employed by the Carilion Clinic, Department of Emergency Medicine and is Medical Director for the Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital ED.  He also serves as the Regional Medical Director for the Western Virginia EMS Council.  Dr. Lane is a lecturer on various EMS topics and serves on various state committees.  He also serves as one of two appointed Medical Examiners for Franklin County.
